Prof. Dr. med. dent. Patrick R. Schmidlin, MBA (UK), FDS RCPS (Glasg) is the Head of the Department of Periodontology and Peri-implant Diseases at the Center of Dental Medicine, University of Zurich. After studying dentistry and earning his doctorate at the University of Zurich, he completed further training in restorative dentistry and periodontology. In 2006, he completed his habilitation, and in 2013, he was appointed Adjunct Professor. Since 2016, he has also been an Honorary Professor at the Sir John Walsh Research Institute at the University of Otago in New Zealand.

Since 2007, he has headed the Department of Periodontology and is responsible for various university continuing education programs. These include the Master of Advanced Studies in Periodontology and, since 2023, the Master of Advanced Studies in Restorative Dentistry. Furthermore, he is active in several national expert bodies and continuing education committees.

His clinical and scientific focus areas include minimally invasive dentistry, periodontology and periodontal medicine, implantology, as well as the prevention and therapy of peri-implant diseases. He collaborates with numerous national and international universities and supervises dissertations, master’s theses, habilitations, and PhD projects.

Patrick Schmidlin is the author or co-author of more than 300 PubMed-listed publications, several book chapters, and patents. In addition to research, teaching, and patient care, he is involved in scientific journals, professional societies, examination boards, and university committees.
