Nicola Ursula Zitzmann
BIOGRAPHY
Nicola Ursula Zitzmann is Head of the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University Dental Clinics of the University Centre for Dental Medicine Basel. She completed her specialist training in reconstructive dentistry (SSRD) in Zurich (1994–7) and, in 2004, was awarded the venia docenti by the University of Basel for her habilitation thesis on “Dental and prosthetic treatment of edentulous patients, with particular emphasis on implant-supported reconstructions”.
As a visiting assistant, she was awarded a PhD in periodontology in 2006 at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, on the topic “Structure and function of the peri-implant mucosa and the gingiva”. N.U. Zitzmann holds the SSO postgraduate qualification in Implantology; she is active as President of the SSRD and as a board member of the SGI, and is Past President of the International College of Prosthodontics, the ITI Swiss Section and the Swiss Dental Examination Board.
With over 200 original papers, more than 80 review articles and book chapters, as well as 60 supervised doctoral and master’s theses, she has an extensive scientific record, which received international recognition in 2014 with the prestigious Jan Lindhe Award. Her research focuses on fixed prosthodontics and implant-supported reconstructions, with an emphasis on soft tissue aspects.
