Dr Maria Pigg works full-time as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Endodontics at Malmö University. She obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) at the University of Gothenburg (1993) and a Certificate in Endodontics at Malmö University, Sweden (2013). She also completed her doctoral thesis (Odont.Dr.) entitled “Chronic intraoral pain – evaluation of diagnostic methods and prognosis” at the Departments of Endodontics and Orofacial Pain and Jaw Function at Malmö University (2011).

Since then, Dr Pigg has co-authored more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, as well as several review articles on toothache, endodontic emergencies, non-odontogenic toothache, orofacial neuropathic pain and differential diagnosis in clinical journals, and has contributed to textbook chapters on the same topics. She is a former Chair of the Swedish Society of Endodontology and an active member of the European Society of Endodontology (ESE), where she serves on the Education and Scholarships Committee and contributes to the ESE accreditation of postgraduate training programmes in Europe. She is also a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and a former President of the Neuroscience Group of the International Association for Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Research (IADR). Dr Pigg is Co-Editor of the “Journal of Oral & Facial Pain and Headache” and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the “Journal of Endodontics”.
