- 1990–1998 – Clinical work and further training in restorative dentistry
- 2003 – Doctorate (PhD) on pulpal neuroinflammation
- 2004–2010 – Research and teaching activities focusing on vital pulp therapy and regenerative endodontics
- 2011–present – Clinical Professor & Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Queen’s University Belfast, School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences
- 2015–present – Head of a research program at the Wellcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine on innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in vital pulp therapy
- 2018–present – Involvement in the development of the ESE S3 guidelines for pulpal and apical therapies
